Two Bed Apartment, Galway City

Property Type: Two Bed Apartment, Galway City

Renovation Timeline: 6 weeks

Brief: Scandi / Soft Industrial

Budget: €23,000

With a budget of €23,000 and visions of an open-plan, Scandinavian design with a soft industrial feel, the new owners commissioned Dan-Éire Designs to deliver design concepts that suited their desired look and budget. To achieve this, the project brief outlined the need for extensive gas, plumbing and electrical work, a new kitchen, feature walls, custom furniture, new lighting, removal of the open fireplace, solutions for extra storage and new furniture and accessories.

The project team’s first task was to take down the internal wall between the entry corridor and the living area to create an airy, open-plan living space bathed in natural light. Some internal doors, a fuse box and some radiators were moved to accommodate the new layout while a cumbersome water tank was replaced with a highly-efficient gas combi boiler to allow for additional kitchen units and greater worktop space.

Kitchen design and usability was also important to the new owners, one being a qualified chef. The original kitchen was small without much worktop space, leading to the design of a new peninsula for extra counter space and room for a leisurely cup of coffee in the morning.  The team also laid an AC5-rated durable laminate oak floor that contributed an extra layer of texture and warmth.

Custom designed pieces were also a key component of the apartment’s transformation.

As the new owners wanted to replace an inefficient open fire with an electric fire on the opposite wall in the living room area, a custom unit was designed to house both a television and the electric fire – a space-saving measure that created a focal point in the room. A bespoke corner bench was also designed to solve a seating solution in the dining space while offering valuable extra storage. Constructed from reclaimed pallet wood and finished with a layer of stain and varnish to seal, both the corner bench and the television unit are showcase examples of how custom pieces can maximise space.

The project was completed on-time and on-budget as part of Dan-Éire Designs’ “Changing Rooms” service for home owners who are keen to refresh and refurbish their living space.

Client Testimonial:

Sarah is an absolute delight to deal with and a great designer. Her vision of our wishes turned out to be better than we expected. You can really see from her devotion that she loves and enjoys what she does. Her focus on our project was way over the limit – in a good way! I love that she has a friendly approach, rather than strictly professional. I always thought that having a designer was going to be too expensive, but with Dan-Éire Designs it’s quite the opposite. We were on a budget and Sarah actually managed to save us big chunks of money in the process. I cannot praise Dan-Éire Designs and Sarah enough and definitely recommend her to anyone who needs or thinks about this service – it’s well worth it.
